| Welcome to Summerside for the 54th Annual Lobster Carnival. Since the late 1950's Islanders from all parts of the Prince Edward Island, as well as many visitors from out-of-province have come to the city to enjoy the wide variety of activities taking place during "Lobster Carnival Week". Lobster Carnival History “Heritage” Celebrating Island History. For over 50 years, the Summerside Lobster Carnival has been there celebrating family fun and entertainment for all ages. Traditions and memories go hand and hand with the Lobster Carnival. Along with traditional activities of the Lobster Carnival, many new and exciting events have been added to the line-up in recent years, with the hopes of creating many new memories for both young and old. The Summerside Lobster Carnival has a long tradition of providing lively family entertainment family during mid-July with the Summerside Lobster Carnival. The highlights everyone look forward to include the Celebrity Dinner, the Downtown Sidewalk Sale, the Talent Showcase, Lobster Dinners, Harness Racing, Bingos, a Spelling Bee, the always popular Parade through the city, and the exciting Master Packaging Cardboard Boat Races. Events start 8 am Saturday, July 11th with the Veteran's Breakfast at the George R. Pearkes VC Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, and run until the end of the final judging of the Talent Showcase at the Credit Union Place on Saturday, July 19th. For many years the Summerside Legion and the Rotary Club
have worked as a team to bring the Summerside Lobster
Carnival to residents and visitors alike and as this year’s
President, I am delighted to welcome you to this signature event
of Summerside, celebrating our oceanfront culture and heritage.
As this guide explains, there’s much to do! Sidewalk sales and
midway rides; a talent show, a spelling bee, a boat race and of
course, lots of lobster! Don’t miss the Lobster Suppers at the
Legion! Our Celebrity Dinner proudly features Senator Mike Duffy
– who always has an interesting story or two! Be sure to join the
crowds for our parade, this year celebrating ‘Pride in Our
Athletes’ as a prelude to the Canada Summer Games here on
PEI.
The Lobster Carnival encourages participation and we have
many volunteers and supporters that we rely on and have
enormous gratitude towards. Thank you all; you are a very special
group.
