Veteran's Breakfast

The Veterans Breakfast 8-10 am Saturday, July 11at the Royal Canadian Legion kicks off
the 2009 Lobster Carnival. Bacon, eggs, sausages, toast, and fried potatoes will be
served .
              
 Celebrity Dinner

The 40th Annual Aliant  Celebrity Dinner
takes place  Sunday, July 12th, 2009 at  Legion
home. A reception will be held at 6:30 pm and
the dinner will start at 7:00 pm.

The guest speakers will include television
commentator Mike Duffy, Honorable Gail Shea,
MP for Egmont, and Mayor Basil Stewart of
Summerside.

The Master of Ceremonies will be Paul H. Schurman.  
Tickets are $35.00 and are available at the Summerside

                                                                               Lobster Dinners will be served at
                                                                    The Legion Monday to Friday, from 4:30
                                                                     to 8:00 pm. The charge is $25 per plate,
                                                                    with a coupon available in the Lobster
                                                                     Carnival Coupon Booklet.
                                                          
                                                                Spelling Bee

                                                                             On Wednesday, July 15th, the
                                                                     Annual Spelling Bee for children will be
                                                                     held at 10 am. See Spelling Bee page.

                                  Michael D. Duffy Biography

Mike Duffy was born in Charlottetown  in 1946 . He attended Charlottetown schools and Saint
Dunstan's - now the University of Prince Edward Island .

In 1962 and 1963 , Duffy reported high school news for "Club '62" on CFCY-TV, Charlottetown
. In high school he also wrote a weekly column on music for the Charlottetown Patriot , and
served as a stringer for Canadian Press , reporting on college football games .

He went on to work as a reporter at the Charlottetown Guardian, and  was assigned to the
paper's Summerside bureau . Later he worked as a journalist at private radio stations in
Amherst and Halifax, Nova Scotia . He joined the CTV affiliate  CFCF - TV in Montreal in 1969 ,
where  as Assignment Editor , he directed coverage of the Montreal Police Strike and the
October Crisis of 1970.

Eager to get back to reporting politics , he moved in 1971 to CFRA in Ottawa , and ten months
later his dream came true as he was assigned to cover  Parliament Hill for the CHUM Group
of radio stations . He then  joined CBC Radio News in 1974, switched to CBC TV in 1978,
and moved to CTV in 1988.

Over the years Mike Duffy has spoken to thousands in support of various Island charities,
including the Catholic Family Services; the Rustico Boys and Girls Club ; the Red Cross,
YMCA and many others. He is no stranger to the Lobster Carnival Celebrity Dinner , having
been a Head table guest on numerous occasions . He looks
